Kenya - Gikira AA

from 6.00

Gikira is a member of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, an organization of 20 small wet mills (known as “factories,”) in and around the town of Othaya in Nyeri county. The society was registered in 1956 with 250 farmers and has since grown to over 15,000 members. Each wet mill produces a wide variety of flavor profiles, from deep fruit notes of prunes and dates to brighter tropical fruit like pineapple and mandarin orange. Kenyan coffees have long been a favorite of ours, and all the lots we've purchased from the Othaya Society have been exceptional.

Coffees produced in Kenya are typically designated in one of three classes: AA, AB, and PB (peaberry). These classes are not indicative of the quality of the coffee, but rather the size of the sorted bean at the washing station. This AA lot from Gikira showcases bright red fruit and a sweetness reminiscent of orange candy, with a bit of balanced spice that reminded us of gingerbread cookies.
